Sarah Leddy has proven herself as a fierce and zealous fighter for all her clients. With an intense record of representing criminal defendants from investigation to trial in the toughest and most complex cases, Ms. Leddy is an Associate at ChaudhryLaw PLLC.
Ms. Leddy defends clients in state and federal courts in white-collar and traditional criminal defense matters, as well as related civil proceedings. She has handled a range of criminal matters from forcible touching to murder. Unlike most defense attorneys, Ms. Leddy has extensive experience representing clients in post-conviction proceedings, many of whom were seeking to prove their actual innocence.
In 2016, through her work at the internationally renowned Innocence Project, Ms. Leddy was a member of the legal team which vacated a first-degree murder conviction in Pennsylvania and exonerated an innocent man who was wrongfully incarcerated for twenty-five years. Ms. Leddy also filed an amicus brief in Pennsylvania which resulted in precedential opinion that facilitated future petitioners’ access to post-conviction DNA testing. To further aid in the effort to prevent wrongful convictions and exonerate the innocent, Ms. Leddy has written and testified in support of numerous legislative bills aimed at expanding access to post-conviction DNA testing and addressing key contributors to wrongful convictions, such as eyewitness misidentification and false confessions.
In addition to her traditional defense work, Ms. Leddy has represented human trafficking victims in their efforts to secure restitution, obtain victims’ compensation, and clear their criminal records. Ms. Leddy litigated the first cases under California Senate Bill 823 that resulted in the vacatur of numerous felony and misdemeanor convictions that survivors of human trafficking received as a direct result of their trafficking.
Ms. Leddy has trained in law and criminology both domestically and internationally. She received her undergraduate degree from American University, earned a Masters in Criminal Justice Policy with First Class Honors from The London School of Economics, and then was graduated from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Ms. Leddy is admitted to practice law in New York, California, and Massachusetts as well as the federal courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
